A Super Sweet 16

People come to our great city for all sorts of reasons—but this particular mother-daughter duo was here for one thing and one thing only—Broadway! To celebrate the daughter’s Sweet 16, they booked a suite at The Chatwal so they were just steps from the heart of the Theatre District. We knew their plans were to go see The Great Comet of 1812, so our concierge team contacted the show and the entire cast signed a poster for the daughter’s birthday! We placed the signed poster in the suite which she found after the show. This was one Sweet 16 that was just that—sweet!”

Girl's Night Out

“As a matter of practice, we like to ask what brings our guests to visit the Big Apple. One particular guest started to cry immediately when asked and explained that her friend who was joining her on the trip had been battling cancer. Even after surgery, the doctor had recently told her friend that the cancerous cells were still present and required chemotherapy. This visit to New York City was for one more girl’s night out before she would begin chemo the next day. Upon hearing this, the team at the hotel upgraded the group to a suite and decorated the room,to make their night a little extra special. This was no ordinary girl’s night out, but it certainly was a memorable one for this group.”

Flash Mob Romance

Romance and New York City go hand-in-hand. Between the twinkling city lights, delicious meals, and skyline views, the city is one of cupid’s hot spots. This was certainly the case when a guest informed the hotel team that he intended to propose to his girlfriend during his stay, but needed a little creative help. The hotel team proposed the idea of a flash mob and the guest was thrilled, picked a song, and the team got to work choreographing! We even emailed all in-house guests to see if they wanted to be part of this special moment! Around 30 guests and team members performed the flash mob in our Living Room, completely surprising the girlfriend. Afterwards, he got down on one knee, and needless to say, she said yes!”

Celebrity Sighting

“New York is well known as a celebrity hot spot, and one little girl wanted to be that celebrity. Her mom mentioned this to the hotel and asked her to make this dream a reality, even just for one special day. When the little celebrity arrived, she was greeted by our Welcome Ambassadors and then security whisked her through the employee entrance to avoid the ‘paparazzi,’ they went up the service lift and to a step and repeat banner for an authentic celebrity experience. Team members asked her for autographs and photos! She was so surprised and had a true New York celebrity moment that she will not soon forget!”

I Love You x 300

“We often have guests visiting New York City to celebrate a romantic getaway, but we were thrilled to be a part of this dreamy surprise. One of our guests wanted to make his partner feel extra special and loved, so he decorated one of our suites with hundreds of fresh rose petals, arranged for chocolates and champagne to be delivered, and placed three-hundred handwritten mini love notes throughout the suite. This gave a whole new meaning to romantic surprise!”

A Very White Wedding

“New York City experiences the occasional Nor’easter that shuts down the entire city and this was unfortunately the case when one particular couple was staying with us during their wedding weekend. The entire hotel was snowed in due to this particularly fearsome storm, and therefore, their wedding was cancelled at a nearby venue! We knew we had to help turn this around for the guests, so we created a pop-up wedding in our restaurant, Halifax, and planned different activities for the wedding guests—from a hot coco station to a Snow-Boken scavenger hunt in our Living Room. While this wasn’t the wedding they had planned, it ended up being a memorable and fun experience for all of the guests!”

Last Minute Save

“We learned that a family was staying with us for a much anticipated first visit to New York City. The family had been saving for a long time to make this special trip happen.  This was especially meaningful because the mother of the family’s health can make it difficult to travel as she requires a wheelchair. However, when the family arrived at the airport, they were saddened to learn that the wheelchair had a broken handlebar from the cross country flight.  The associates at our hotel immediately noticed the issue and were able to fix the handle! We were proud to help this family experience New York City as they deserved!”
